Water

Put some water inside the bowl and place in the bowl the upper side of hookah. Water has to be ice cold (â it cleans the smoke better). To cool the water put ice cubes in it. Then you may also place inside the water fruit cubes — this will enhance the hookah smoking. You need as much water so the pipe is immersed in the water about 1,5cm—2cm. if the level is higher it will be harder to inhale, if less the smoke will not be filtered. Instead of water you may use fat free milk, or fresh vine, under no circumstances do not drink it after the smoking! You may be poisoned!

Air tightness

Try to breath in the air trough the pipe and close it with your hand. If it is hard — then everything ok, if not — that means there is a leak. Try to find and eliminate the air leak.

Tobacco

Place some tobacco inside the cup (approx. 1—2  tea spoons).
Place tobaccos in that way so it stays lose. If you place it too tight, the openings at the bottom of the cup will not coduct ebough air. Cover the cup with foil. The distance between the tobacco and foil shoul be 0,5—1 cm. if the tobacco touches the foil it will  burn with unpleasant smoke.

Foil

Wrap the cup with the foil, it is better to use thick foil or double layer of thin foil.
With a sharp tool (for ex. toothpick) make holes inside of it. If they are too small they will be stuck with the ashes, if they are too big — then ventilation will too intense and smoke will be unsaturated.

Coal

Burn the coal and place it on top of the foil. The best to use is natural coal, it does not effect taste of a smoke. You may also use a saltpeter coal which burns faster.
